From: La Vonne Dougall
Relation: Rudy was my CPE supervisor

Dear Diane, I am deeply saddened to hear of your loss! Rudy was an amazing and remarkable man who left his mark on all he met. Speaking personally, he changed my life in so many ways and I will always remember him fondly and with gratitude. My prayers are with you and your family during this time. I am sorry to miss Rudy’s service, however I have to speak at a retreat today so I cannot attend. Sending hugs and love. Blessings, La Vonne

From: Janet MacKay Thompson
Relation: 2nd Cousin

Dear Diane
I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your husband. I hope you find comfort in your family and friends. I am sorry that I did not get to Hamilton to see you with Mark. Perhaps the next time will work out better. Janet

From: Rev. Vida Jaugelis
Relation: Rudy was my teacher and mentor

“A teacher’s major contribution may pop out anonymously in the life of some ex-student’s grandchild. A teacher, finally, has nothing to go on but faith, a student nothing to offer in return but testimony.” ~ Wendell Berry ~

Rudy was my first Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisor. Through his deep listening and compassionate presence my life was transformed and renewed and set on a different course. He gave me courage to pursue my dreams, and I will forever remain ‘ indebted for the many spiritual gifts he gave me. To Diane and family, I offer my deepest condolences. Grant him eternal rest O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.

From: Douglas Wilson
Relation: We were collegues in chaplaincy.

On behalf of the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care I would like to express our deepest sympathies. Rudy was a wonderful teacher and chaplain. We will put his name in our Book of Remembrance and at the annual meeting next year in Ottawa his name will be read during a service when we remember members of our organization who have died. You can see the Book of Remembrance by going to the National Website and looking for Living Human Memories.

From: Juliet Henderson-Rahbar
Relation: My first CPE teaching supervisor

What a gift it was to receive Rudy as my first teaching supervisor. The knowledge of his death brought tears to my eyes and a flood of warm memories. He was a source of wisdom and kindness; a great and humble human being, who left a rich legacy to those of us who were touched by his life and ministry. I will always cherish his memory. My thoughts go out to his wife, as I remember being welcomed into their home for tea as part of our CPE unit ending.
