Tribute

Peter was born in Brakel, Germany to Elias and Katharina Bergen, as the second child and only son of three children.  In 1950 they immigrated to Paraguay, then to Canada in 1956 and a year later they moved to Vancouver where the family purchased a house on 49th Ave.

Peter graduated from John Oliver High School in 1967 and with his mathematical and mechanical abilities, he began his machinist apprenticeship program attending evening classes at BCIT.

In 1971 Peter married Marlene Fast of Greendale and lived in Burnaby until they moved to Abbotsford in 1974 into their first new home where they welcomed two children, son Chris and daughter Elissa.

He loved cars, cameras, tools and  working/creating with his hands, sometimes fixing things or making them more efficient.  He loved his family and friends, traveling and actively enjoying nature by hiking, cycling, canoeing, snorkeling and  sailing.

His seven grandchildren brought great joy into his life.  His strong faith in God and his dry sense of humour helped him through the adversities in his life.
Peter Bergen,  age 76,  of Abbotsford, BC passed peacefully on June 9, 2024.  He was the most caring and gentle, strong and resilient husband, father and grandfather.   We miss him greatly.  Peter is predeceased by his parents and older sister.

He is survived by his beloved spouse, Marlene of 53 years, children Chris and Carmen, Elissa and Tom, and seven grandchildren, Kaelan, Sam, Adam and  Callie Grell and Claire, Camryn and Carrigan Bergen.
