Irene Chanig

August 16, 1926 - April 18, 2013

Tribute

Mom passed away April 18, 2013 in Chilliwack.  She was born in Halmeu, Romania August 126, 1926.  She came to Canada as a child with her family in 1929, moving to southern Saskatchewan.  There she met and married Dad.  In 1947 they moved to the lower mainland where they raised five sons. .Mom loved to travel, garden, knit, crochet and many other hobbies. She was predeceased by her husband Jim in October 1982.    In her wisdom she left a poem to all her loved ones.  Thanks Mom

“When I come to the end of the road

and the sun has set for me

I want no rites in a gloom filled room

why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little but not too long

and not with your head bowed low

remember the good times we all shared

miss me but let me go.

Scatter my ashes to the four winds

So I may fly free as the birds.”

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Sorry about Irene leaving us. We are all from Hungarian background dating back to 1950’s and ’60s and I lived at Jim and Julia Sabo’s. I went to school with one of their sons and were good friends back in the 1960s and would like to connect – not sure what her son’s name was now (getting up in years) but he owned an old 1/2 ton and we were heading down to Lynden to roller skate as we went to turn south from Fraser Highway at 264th we missed the turn in heavy rain in the dark, we hit the ditch. Nobody was hurt – girl friend Bonnie got a bump on the head. That was the end of our trip to Lynden, Wa.
Be great to connect once again. The truck may have been an older model Studebacker) Thanks 604-870-0472
