Brian Manson

November 22, 1943 - April 26, 2014

Tribute

Brian was born November 22, 1943 in Vancouver, B.C. and passed away April 26, 2014 at McKenney Creek Hospice, Maple Ridge.  He was truly one of a kind in every aspect of his life; family man, dear friend, and dedicated to his passions, hockey, music, draft horse teams, and the freight industry.  His dedication to the freight industry spanned a career of fifty years encompassed by PIX, Alltrans, Kwikasair, and most recently Canadian Freightways.  He joined his wife Merrie in her real estate career during the mid 1990’s only to return to Canadian Freightways as the love of being behind the wheel called to his heart.  Brian was a loving husband to Merrie; devoted father to Jason, Derek, Kevin (Nicole),  Sara vanderHoeven (Jan) and  Michelle White (Chris).  He was predeceased in 2013 by Chad.  As Grandpa he shared his hockey passion with  Jeramy and Liam vanderHoeven; his music passion with Harley Manson; and with a twinkle in his eye and love in his heart Grandpa loved his girls, Jessica vanderHoeven, Kaylee White and Emma Manson.  He is also survived by his brothers and sister Dave Manson (Rose), William Craigie-Manson (Marge), Diane Kearse (John) and their extended families.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to their family, many wonderful friends, and the Canadian Freightways Team.  To the medical support team, thank you, thank you,   Dr. Paul Sidhu, Dr. Winston Tsui, Dr. Barbara Hughes, the ICU nursing team, and Two West nursing staff, and his niece Debbie McGhie (R.N.) who all supported Brian with grace and dignity over the short time he was ill.

From: Elaine Margaret McLean
Relation: Relationship - How did you know the deceased?

I will always remember Brian smiling and a twinkle in his eyes. He loved his family deeply as they loved him. I will miss him. He was a dear friend. Elaine McLean.

Relation: Co-worker

Imagine the surprise when we were informed that Stalwart Brian had taken ill. It was a private joke that he was really a cyborg and that’s how he was so robust and still working long after most of us would have sat back on the porch with our feet up. Brian was welcoming and friendly from the first day I came to CF and for some odd reason, I always seemed to replace him when he was holidaying. So imagine the shock when we heard he passed. We are so sorry for you loss and will miss Brian at the terminal. My families prayers are with you all and may you find peace in the times ahead. God bless you.

From: Lena Peragine
Relation: Neighbour and family friend

We are so very sad to hear of Brian’s passing. I will always remember your dad… Always smiling and joking, blaring his country music with the front door wide open. The caring man who took care of his boys and was there to watch over the six of us bratty kids next door. He will never be forgotten xox

From: Deanna Peragine Blackburn
Relation: Neighbour

Wow, I am so sad to hear about the passing of Brian. My family grew up a few doors down from Brian and his family. I will always remember how he always had a smile on his face and was always ready to play a joke on all of us kids in the neighbourhood. To the Manson family. I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
