Patricia Gloria Kimball (Possey)
December 29, 1928 - July 16, 2023
Tribute
It is with an extremely heavy heart that we announce that Patricia Gloria Kimball (formerly
Haeber, née Possey) passed away, suddenly, on the sunny afternoon of July 16, 2023, in South
Surrey, British Columbia. Patricia is survived by her five children, Joanne, Terence, Lee, Brent
and Lori: She was the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one
great, great grandchild, and a loving aunt to her niece Janet and nephews Wayne, Jim and Del.
Patricia was predeceased by her parents Ethel Alice (Hook) and Charles Possey, her two
husbands Edward Herman Haeber and Floyd Ivan Kimball, and by her brother Stanley, sister-in-
law Florence, sister Hazel, brother-in-law David and her nephew Jim.
Patricia was born in Stettler, Alberta on Dec. 29, 1928. She soon moved with her family to
Fernie, BC, and then on to Vancouver. Patricia endured two marriages (her words), raising the
five children from her first marriage mostly on her own, in Fleetwood and, after marrying again,
in Delta, BC. She loved music, reading, dancing, sunbathing and watching the crazy antics of
Lucille Ball on television. She believed, steadfastly, that she was related to Johnny Carson (his
mother’s maiden name was Hook). Patricia loved animals, and often took in strays and rescue
animals to care for them, including her Shih Tzu, Brindle, and her cat, Nikki.
Patricia was known best for her witty sense of humour, kindness, generosity, and her unfailing
belief that everyone was created equally. Her children share fond memories of her adeptness at
turning dinners comprised of either baking powder biscuits, fruit cocktail or boiled garlic
sausage into a treat, rather than a reflection of earlier, hard times. She had an uncanny ability
to shrink a perfectly good roast to a third of its size, often pulling a delectably roasted prime rib
off of the BBQ only to throw it into the oven for several hours because “meat needs to be
cooked”.
Patricia most enjoyed laying in the sun by the swimming pool. During the summer she hosted
many family dinners poolside and watched her grandchildren play in the water. She also kept
Christmas largely, with her family overflowing from bedrooms and couches so that they could
all be together on Christmas morning.
In her last months, Patricia suffered from increasing dementia; however, she reminisced fondly
about her parents and her sister, and enjoyed telling stories about them. God willing, she is
spending her time with them now.
