May 2, 1938 - April 20, 2023
Tribute
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Kenneth Nelson Stanley Calder, of Abbotsford, BC, just shy of his 85th birthday, beloved father, papa, and grandpa, joined the love of his life, Lorraine in heaven on April, 20th, 2023 surrounded by friends and family.
Ken, fondly known as Casey, was born to Doris and Kenneth Calder in the small town of Deloraine, MB. Ken’s father, Kenneth, passed away before Ken was born and he was then raised by Doris and his stepfather, Nelson Calder. The family moved to Winnipeg, and Ken, at the young age of 17, joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served for 5 years as an Engineer Mechanic (or Stoker) on the HMCS Iroquois and the HMCS Columbia. Ken then met Lorraine Bannister in Sydney, NS and were married on June 22, 1963 and started their married lives in Winnipeg, MB. Ken became a name for himself in real estate managing Marion Realty in St. Boniface until 1976. Ken started new ventures in California owning and operating the Sherman Car Wash in Los Angeles and continuing with his real estate career in San Jose. Ken returned to Winnipeg in 1979 and worked with Century 21 until 1982. In 1982, Ken dedicated his life to the Lord and served Him faithfully until his dying day. In 1988, Ken and Lorraine moved to Abbotsford, BC, where he worked for Sears until his retirement and enjoyed many days RVing in Harrison Hot Springs with Lorraine. Ken will be lovingly remembered for his dedication to the Lord Jesus Christ, his generosity, and his incredible sense of humour.
Ken leaves behind his three children: Sherri Houston (Dion), Karen Gartner (Jesse), and Marlene Funk; his brother Douglas Calder (Dawn); 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws and the many friends he’s met over the years. Ken was predeceased by his wife Lorraine, his parents, and his sister, Marjorie Reynolds.
His children invite you to join a Celebration of Life service to be held on Saturday, April 29th, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Transform Central Church located at 2413 McCallum Road in Abbotsford, BC.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cyrus Centre, 45845 Wellington Avenue, Chilliwack, BC,

Relation: Son in law.
I only got to spend a short time with him because of the distance but I am proud to be his son in law; just wish we had more time, but he is happy with his wife again.
From: Carolyn MacKenzie
Relation: He married my best friend.
Hugs to all of you on the loss of your Dad. Your Mom and I were best friends growing up in Sydney. He and Lorraine met at my wedding way back when. My husband and your Dad were on the same ship and the same trade. Sincere sympathy.

It was with heavy hearts that we learned of Ken’s passing. As his former sister-in-law, I loved his fun loving spirit, family times, his and Lorraine’s wonderful hospitality and his messages to me in the last number of years. He has certainly received his reward and has been reunited with his beloved Lorraine/Lolly. Sending heaps of love and blessings to his family. ♥️
