John James Howell

Tribute
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John James Howell on January 29, 2025 at the age of 90 Years with his devoted daughter and grandson by his side. John was born March 2, 1934 in Manchester, England. In 1946 after WWII at the age 12 Dad and 2 of his brothers, his sister and mother boarded the Queen Mary and immigrated to Milltown, NB where they resided on a small farm in hopes of a better life. In 1953 he joined the Royal Canadian Airforce and while stationed in Winnipeg, MB dad met his one and only true love Marie Hubeli of Plumas, Manitoba.
They were married May 14, 1955 and had 6 children. Dad retired from the Airforce after 20 years and used the education and training from the forces to pursue other careers as a boiler engineer in the Provincial and Federal Government in various provinces but finally fully retired from Matsqui Federal Institution. From then on Dad and Mom enjoyed travelling and volunteering for various organizations such as the Red Cross and St Vincent de Paul. After Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s he devoted his next 18 years for caring for his wife till her passing.
John was predeceased by his wife Marie Anna, parents Tom and Margaret Alice Howell, brothers Tom, Bert and Pete Howell, stepfather Lawson McFarlane, son Tom Howell, son In-law Earl Porter, daughter-in-law Kim Howell and grandson-In-law Jay Bartling.
John is survived by his sons Jim (Heather) Howell, John Howell, daughters Cat (Wes) Peters, Terrie Porter, Loretta (Greg) Hilton, grandchildren Lauren, Matthew, Cole, Chad, Cale, Riley, Rae-Marie, Grant and great grandchildren Emma, Taylor, Brooke, Chase, Hudson, Avery and TBA! Sister Marian Panzer, and dearest nieces Sandra, Tougie, Mo as well other nieces and nephews.
Full Mass will be held for John and Marie May 3rd, 2025 at 11 a.m. at St Ann’s Catholic Church and will be livestreamed.
