Tribute

Joanne spent her first 18 years of her life in Sydney, Cape Breton surrounded by her family and all her friends from school and in her surrounding neighbourhood. She enjoyed her friends and she kept in touch with most of them right up to the end. Joanne loved her family very much, sometimes it may seem she didn’t express her love, but looking back at her life through photos and long talks, Joanne did love everyone. Joanne became a Christian and got baptized in 1983 at Christian Life Assembly Church in Langley, BC.

Joanne’s resting place will be at Hardwood Hill Cemetery in Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia with her family. She is survived by her brother Leon Black (Marie), sister Cindy Black (Watanabe) and her children, Amy Fox, Nicole Simard and Jeffrey Simard (Andreanne), 7 great nieces and nephews and one great, great niece, along with extended family and friends.

Leon and Joanne drove across western Canada landing in Calgary, Alberta first, and worked in Vancouver, BC for quite a few years before moving to Langley, BC.  She lived in North Vancouver in her early 20’s. She would ride her mountain bike to work across the Lions Gate Bridge, worked all day & biked home in the sun, rain, wind, snow made no difference to her she loved it. Joanne became a walker & bike Courier for various companies downtown Vancouver. Joanne also worked for Loomis Courier while she went to school for computers and took computerized bookkeeping & worked for businesses downtown Vancouver. Then, Joanne became an accounts receivable clerk for Jordan’s Carpets & Interiors. One of her last jobs 1991 – 2003 was at BCAA head office processing medical policies and finishing up 4 years as an Insurance agent in Langley, BC.

In the last few years Joanne worked rescuing animals and transporting wild and injured/sick animals back to Critter Care Wildlife Society in Langley, BC.

Some of her hobbies were photography, guitar, writing poetry, camping and trying her hand at the wheel in traveling. Joanne traveled to Mexico, California, Ontario and Alberta.  Joanne loved Leon’s old post office van, Joanne and Leon traveled from Ontario across to Vancouver, BC. Joanne and Leon had great memories of their trips.

Joanne you will be missed and we all love you dearly, God took her home, but she lives on in our hearts.
