Tribute

Cynthia Visser (née Klassen) passed away in Surrey on December 7, 2024, surrounded by family. She is survived by her children Hannah, Olivia, and Jakob, and her brother Tim. She is predeceased by her parents, Orville and Alice Klassen.

Born in Vancouver on August 17, 1966, Cynthia was adopted by her parents at six weeks old. She often laughed about the freedom children had when she grew up, and remembered days spent playing outdoors with her brother. At age 18, Cynthia met Richard Visser and married in 1986. After many years of prayer, they had three children between 1996 and 2005. Cynthia always said being a mother was her greatest accomplishment, and it showed in the way she raised her children with endless love. She provided childhoods filled with tea parties, sports games, creativity, and lots of play in the garden and parks.

Cynthia is a beloved mother, sister, friend, and more. Those who knew her will remember her for her laughter, craftiness, and her love for family. From a young age, Cynthia was curious about history and dreamed of travelling around the world. She was able to do this at multiple points in her life, especially in her last few years.

Despite her cancer diagnosis, Cynthia fought hard throughout her last year and always spoke honestly about her experience: “If I can’t change something I’ll have to find a way through it. What can I control? Today I’m grateful I can still walk and do the stairs; that I have my mind. I felt the sun on my body.”

Cynthia’s spirit, wisdom, and joy for life will live on through those who loved and knew her.

A service to remember Cynthia will be held at Willoughby Community Hall on January 2nd, at 12:00 p.m.
