Tribute
John Harry Getz, 68, of Abbotsford, BC, formerly of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, left us to be with Jesus on May 22, 2023 with his family by his side after a very brief fight with cancer.
John was born August 9, 1954 in Prelate, Saskatchewan to Harry and Theresa Getz. John lived in Saskatchewan where he met his sweetheart Brenda and they were married December 7, 1974. They had the greatest love and were inseparable. They were blessed with five children: Sherry, Nicole, their angel baby Amber, John and Chelsey.
John worked hard and had many jobs, but spent most of his career as the hardest working meat cutter that one could find. He retired a short 3 1/2 years ago in 2019 and enjoyed every extra moment that he could spend with his family.
His hobbies included fixing cars, watching hockey, lifting weights and doing push-ups, going to car shows and watching arm wrestling.
John is survived by his wife, Brenda, his children: Sherry (Teo), Nicole (Steve), John (Jenn), and Chelsey, his grandchildren: Kailee, Alex, Mattias, Colby, Connor and Tayler, and his siblings: Rose (Norman), Kathy, Sharon (Wes), Gerald, Will (Michelle) and Peggy. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amber, his father, Harry and his mother, Theresa.
John will especially be remembered as a gentle giant with his kind spirit and soft heart. He was a strong, hard-working man, an amazing son, father, loving husband and devoted Grandpa.
The memorial will be held at LifeSpring Church, located at 2393 West Railway Street in Abbotsford on Monday, May 29 at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to our family’s GFM page which is being used to cover funeral expenses and to provide financial stability for his wife, Brenda. See link below.

John was such a kind caring friend. Tim and i will sure miss him. I remember the day he carried a washer and dryer up my basement stairs like they were empty boxes, i was so amazed at how strong he was. It was so funny to see John and Brenda together, he was so tall and she was so short. John and Brenda had a marriage made in heaven and i look up to them. Literaly looked up to John…lol… rest in paradise my friend
