Robert Bruce Plowman

December 27, 1938 - September 18, 2020

Tribute

Robert Bruce Plowman passed away on September 18, 2020 after a short illness this past summer. The family would like to thank the staff at Peace Arch hospital and the Melville Hospice Home, 15575 16A Ave, Surrey for their great care of Robert.

Robert was born in Toronto, Ontario on December 27,1938 to Gladys and Herbert Plowman. Growing up, Robert was very active in many sports such as basketball and football but his big love became golf. He became an avid golfer throughout his life and achieved a 7 handicap. After high school, he attended University of Waterloo in Kitchener, Ontario where he studied electrical engineering. In 1964, when he worked for Northern Electric at the Bell Telephone building, he met Gail McIsaac and they married in June 1967.

Robert led a wonderful life with many friends, family time and fun adventures along the way. His career with General Motors of Canada started in Oshawa, Ontario in 1965 and in 1968 took him and his wife Gail to Regina, Saskatchewan. This is where they started their family until an opportunity came to move to Vancouver, BC in 1975. They settled into Richmond, BC for the next 40 years and raised their children there. Robert retired at the age of 55 from GM and he started a second 20 year part-time career with his love of photography shooting many weddings, events and portraits around Richmond, BC.  His favorite shots were of nature, especially documenting birds of prey. Robert also took many pictures for the City of Richmond website and at the Chamber of Commerce events over the years. He belonged to Quilchena Golf and Country Club for many years and spent alot of time there on and off the golf course. Robert was also a devoted Grandfather to his two grandchildren, Brooklyn and Chase. He attended many dance recitals, soccer games, tae kwon do lessons, school events over the years and drove the kids anywhere they needed to be. He loved to take the kids to Minoru Park when they were young and visit the ducks and enjoy the grounds. They spent time at most of the parks in Richmond and enjoyed going to Steveston for fish and chips.

After 40 years in Richmond, Robert and Gail moved to South Surrey and enjoyed their new townhouse, exploring nature in Surrey/Langley and many cruise vacations for the last 5 years.

Robert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gail Plowman, his daughters Stacey Mackenzie, and Richelle Plowman, and his two grandchildren Brooklyn and Chase Mackenzie. He also leaves behind his sister, Cheryl Bolton (Jim Bolton) and their children Eric, Gessney, Blake and Matt in Toronto, Ont; sister-in-law Judith Monroe and her son Gregory in Oshawa, Ont.

Robert is predeceased by both his parents and his daughter Laura Plowman (6).

My deepest condolences to the Plowman family. I am so sorry for your loss. I am a friend to Stacey and have seen many of Roberts beautiful photographs over the years. A great photographer indeed! I only ever met him once and he was very kind and helpful. I know Stacey was very appreciative of all he had done for her throughout her growing up, and was very grateful for all the time he spent with his grandchildren.

May your many wonderful memories serve as comfort to you in your time of grief 💕
