Died peacefully Jan 9, 2012 at Maple Ridge. Born Aug 7, 1925 in Winnipeg, Man. she is predeceased by her mother Mabel Haines. Norma is survived by her children, Dale (Janice); Darlene (Jim); Lorne; 8 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. As a young woman she worked in a munitions factory during WWII then came to Vancouver after the war. She was always full of life and worked hard as a single mom taking care of and raising her children with strong values. Norma was ahead of her time in teaching her children equality — that we are to love and respect all people no matter race, creed, colour or status in society. Norma was a champion of the underdog and would give the shirt off her back to help you. Norma had a love for the outdoors and the Peace Country of northern Alberta. She enjoyed fishing with her mother and children in tow spending as much time as possible in her VW Van on the rivers and lakes of BC always searching for the elusive great fish that always got away. Norma worked many jobs but found her niche in housekeeping. She worked her way through the ranks starting as a cleaner in the BC hospitals system eventually becoming the Executive Housekeeper at the Maple Ridge Hospital until she retired. Norma worked hard in her community as a volunteer and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion #88 Woman’s Auxiliary and the Army, Navy, and Air Force service club. On her passing a small but bright spot in the universe has dimmed and died. Donations in her memory can be made to the local Food Bank in order to help those in need.
